Water The Essence Of Life

Water is the essence of life,without it there would be no life as we know it. All living things from the smallest one celled organism to the most complex form of life (people) need water to live. Considering the critical importance of water we tend to
take this precious substance for granted. For many centuries our water supplies remained relatively safe and unpolluted but the last 200 years have seen devastating changes in our vital water supplies.

With our ever-growing “urban sprawl” the world’s water
supplies are under constant bombardment from pollutants.
Our factories pour chemicals into the water and cities dump
tons of raw sewage daily into our rivers and oceans. Added
to this are the oil disasters (spills) polluting many miles
of oceans and washing up on our beaches. These are just a
few of the pollutants that assault our vital water
supplies.

Now with the EPA and other agencies working to halt the
process of pollution many more people are aware and
actively trying to solve the problems of this widespread
pollution. However despite recent efforts to curb
contamination and clean up our water sources, it is still
an uphill battle. Realistically none of our water is clean
and 100% safe to drink. In view of this we use several ways
to try to ensure we have clean safe water to drink. Here
are 3 main ways:

· Water Filters on taps/faucets.

· Bottled water

· Distillation (Distilled water)

Water filters on taps: these will get rid of many unwanted
chemicals, but do not get rid of harmful bacteria. These
filters clean our water in a limited way. They are quite
expensive to replace, and must be changed on a regular
basis or will loose their effectiveness.

Bottled water is processed at factories. It is usually
filtered and sometimes boiled. It will have varying degrees
of chemical and bacterial purity, depending on the brand.
Overtime the constant buying and storing this form of water
can become tedious and expensive.

Distilled water is the purest of all, as this eradicates
both bacteria and chemicals. Filters for the unit are
relatively cheap and in the long run will cost less time
and money to maintain. With distilled water you can always
be sure of maximum purity.

We should all try to be careful and make an effort to take
care of our water supplies. They are our life source and
